1990s House
One of the first things I told my boyfriend was “I don’t want TV in our future house.” I know it may come as a surprise to you to say that at the beginning of a relationship. However, I am sure that, my children will grow up as a 1990s kid. NoTV!
I believe that as we put more ability to one device we tend to forget the blessings we have. Our “telephones” are now not just for calling, but socializing, watching movies, listening to music, and even taking photos. I want my kids to have a stop and thinking time while they switch from one device to another. If they're going to watch one more episode of Friends, they need to get up and put that CD into the CD player, while doing so they would have the time to think if they need to watch one more episode, then simply click see the next episode button.
It is not just TV matters. I do not want them to have smartphones until 19 (or until they go to college). I know it may sound controversial. Of course, they will have a phone, but a flip phone with a connection to the internet would work well to communicate.
Before coming to me, let me explain. I started to use the AI technology when I was in college. The first year, I was hesitant to use it. As time passed, I started to use it more frequently for my daily tasks, like giving me a to-do list or simply planning my day. I was 19 by the time, and I noticed I lost my ability to plan my day by myself… Can you imagine how it would affect some young brains who do not have the ability to begin with?
Moreover, I think there is a relaxing thing to see collecting DVDs, CDs, and everything else you can think of. I like to see what I listen to, scan the collection I have, and see what I will see today in materialistic form.
